FROM AMSTERDAM TO PANAMA, THEN TO SAN JOSÉ. THAT’S HOW I STARTED THIS LONG TRIP.

Woke up early in San José, in order to pick up our rented car, Daihatsu Bego, 4pwd, completely need it. Once settle on the car, the trip begun.

From there we drove direction to Poas Volcano, nice spot, although we were not so lucky with the weather, and it rained quite a little. In there we could enjoy a couple of friendly squirrels and of course the volcano.

After that, we headed up to La Paz Waterfalls, this private park costs 39$, but it’s worthy, we enjoyed the waterfalls, and the other animals they have in there, toucans and many different kinds of birds, butterflies, wild cats, snakes and some frogs.

By the end of the day, we reached La Fortuna.

Arenal Volcano

Arenal Volcano

We woke up with that view, such a perfect volcano shape although we didn‘t do a hike in there because after 8am was completely overcast and the volcano disappeared in the clouds, but we went to La Fortuna waterfall, in my opinion, a hidden gem, not too touristic and you can have a bath in it.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn‘t that good to stay longer at La Fortuna, therefore we decided to go to Monteverde, and this is why I mentioned before, get a 4x4, that was just the beginning.

The highest bungee jumping in America central was awaiting us in Monteverde. We did not just the bungee, also canopy, superman, and Tarzan extreme jumps, scary, though, but, highly recommended if you are looking for adrenaline.

Totally unexpected but this is Costa Rica, find any species anywhere so we saw this colorful macaw while waiting to jump.

During the evening we went for a night tour where we could see some snakes, spiders, insects, but the highlight was the sloth, first time I saw one of those, wonderful.

Day 4, we took the car in the direction of Tamarindo, on the way, we stopped by Cocos Beach, do not go there, waste of time. Also, we dropped by Conchal Beach, totally worth it, though. About Tamarindo I have to say it is a touristic place, I would not recommend if don‘t have an extra day, although we saw a gorgeous sunset.

The day after we starting driving south, and we reached Montezuma, sweet and local spot where we visited a couple of nice beaches and did a great hike in Cabo Blanco Absolute Natural Reserve.

We had to keep on going, so we stop by Tortuga island, this was a recommended place to do snorkel, although by that time it was raining season and the water was a bit choppy.

After taking the car into the ferry from Paquera to Puntarenas our next spot was Manuel Antonio National park, I personally was a bit disappointed, too touristic, but if you can‘t spend at least 3 days in Corcovado (my highlight) including traveling till there, come here. It was funny to see monkeys and raccoons trying to get the food from everyone‘s backpacks, or even try to steal my camera as you can see on the cover.

We kind of finished the trip in Corcovado. Totally worthy, although it is located far away on the south-east of the country and difficult to reach, still if you like adventure, you should go to Corcovado. We overnight at the Station after 24km trough jungle and beach, very tiring.

Pacuare River Rafting

The 4x4 brought us back to San Jose where we continue our trip to Panama. Before the border, we did rafting on the Pacuare river, highly recommended, and a couple of nights in Puerto Viejo, just chilling a little.

I went to Costa Rica back in the June 2015 and this was my first published story after that many others have been published, I hope you like it :)
